In Memoriam - Paul Mendes-Flohr

Paul Mendes-Flohr, a friend, a man of love and peace, a teacher, and the preeminent Buber scholar and biographer in the world, has passed away early today in Jerusalem. His invitation for me to write an essay on Buber and Eastern Wisdom for his companion book to the 100 year publication of Buber's "I and Thou" was, for me, the highlight of my life-long intellectual and spiritual explorations. It is not possible to ascertain how much wonderful and exciting scholarship is now lost to the world. But it is even harder to describe how gentle and how caring a human being Paul Mendes-Flohr was. A rare good person never really dies.

May Paul's memory be a blessing.
