Why Goa? For 500 years Goa was a Portuguese Colony. During that period, Catholicism took root in the territory and shared the space, often times contentiously, with ancient Hindu traditions. There is also a notable Muslim presence throughout the state. Despite a period of inquisition against Jewish "conversos", forced conversions, and other upheavals, Goa remains a hub of religious pluralism and tolerance. Goa is the smallest of all Indian states and the last to gain independence from colonial occupation in 1961. Goa is renowned for its many natural wonders, long and quiet beaches along the Arabian sea, family farms, waterfalls and old quaint villages. At the same time the capital city, Panjim, as well as other larger cities, are examples of modernization and rapid growth, exhibiting all the benefits and drawbacks of urban development.
Sites to visit: The workshop will take us to ancient temples, old churches and other sites of worship.
We will visit with monastics and mystics, with clergy, scholars and practitioners, and be invited to partake in their practices and observances. We will survey the different religious traditions present in the Indian State of Goa. Interwoven within the tour we will also enjoy musical and cultural presentations, city tours and free time to visit the old markets, worship, attend lectures, shopping and enjoying the magnificent and pristine Goa beaches.
The Registration Form to participate in the workshop can be found bellow.
